Senate Rescinds Call for CAC Boss’ Removal After Apology and Reforms

After tendering an unreserved apology, CAC Registrar-General Hussaini Magaji wins Senate’s forgiveness and avoids removal, while being scheduled to reappear for budget defence

The Senate has decided not to remove the head of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) after he personally appeared to apologize for earlier mistakes. By taking responsibility and improving how he communicates with lawmakers, the CAC boss has been given a second chance to continue his work.

The Senate has withdrawn its earlier demand for President Bola Tinubu to remove Hussaini Magaji, Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), following his appearance at the budget defence session and a heartfelt apology to lawmakers.

During the session, Magaji explained that a communication gap between his staff and the National Assembly liaison unit led to his delayed attendance. He said he cut short his engagements in Lagos to appear before the committee and has since created a dedicated liaison office to handle all matters related to the National Assembly. Several senators defended Magaji, highlighting his remorse and past record. Senator Dicket Plang described him as deeply contrite and deserving of a second chance, while Senator Ned Nwoko noted his disciplined disposition both in public and private life. The Senate adopted a motion moved by Sen. Isa Jibrin and seconded by Sen. Sani Daura to rescind the earlier removal call. This development emphasizes the balance between accountability and fairness in public service.
