Sacked Lagos Employee Arrested for Stealing N15 Million From Former Employer
He Lost His Job at an Airport IT Firm — Then Came Back in the Dark and Took N15 Million Worth of Equipment
Losing your job is hard enough — but George Ikpe decided that walking away quietly was not an option, and the Airport Police Command made sure that decision had consequences.
The Airport Police Command has arrested 28-year-old George Ikpe for allegedly breaking into his former workplace - Vovida Communications Limited, an IT solutions company located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport axis - and stealing equipment worth approximately ₦15 million.
He was apprehended on April 3, 2026, following intelligence gathering and a CCTV review that confirmed his identity. Employee disputes and post-termination misconduct have been a growing concern across Nigerian businesses for years. From data theft and sabotage to physical break-ins, companies - especially SMEs and tech firms - have faced significant losses from disgruntled former staff. The rise of digital infrastructure in Nigerian businesses has also made internal systems more vulnerable to people who once had legitimate access. Ikpe allegedly gained unauthorised access to the company’s premises after his employment was terminated and removed two custom-made Vovida CPUs valued at ₦10,357,000 and a high-end printer worth ₦4,715,000 - a total of approximately ₦15,072,000. The company’s CCTV footage captured his movements and helped confirm his identity.
Police recovered the two CPUs after Ikpe provided information during interrogation. The printer however had already been sold before his arrest. Losing a job is genuinely hard - especially in Nigeria’s current economy where finding the next one is not guaranteed. But breaking into your former workplace and stealing millions of naira worth of equipment is not a solution. It is a crime with consequences that will outlast any workplace grudge.
